Sammamish, Issaquah Moms Deliver First Babies of 2013

Congratulations to the Mazariegos and Heady families for welcoming the first baby boy and the first baby girl at two local hospitals on New Year's morning.

The start of a new year brings many new things, including new life, and this year, Sammamish and Issaquah families led the way.

A new Sammamish resident was the first baby born at Overlake Hospital in Bellevue.

Katie and Austin Heady became the proud parents of a daughter, Demsie, who was born at Overlake at 1:53 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1 and weighed 8 lbs, 10 oz. She has a big sister, Emerson, 5.

Less than two hours later, Swedish/Issaquah welcomed its first baby of the new year on Jan. 1 at 3:33 a.m. The baby boy, named Adrien, weighed in at 8 lbs. 1 oz. and measured 20.5 inches long. He was born to first-time parents and Issaquah residents Luz Maria and Enrique Mazariegos. The delivering physician was Maria Holmes, M.D., with Issaquah Women’s Clinic.

In celebration of the special occasion, The Shops at Swedish and the Swedish/Issaquah Starbuck’s each donated a newborn gift basket to the Mazariegos family.

In 2012, there were 960 deliveries in the Childbirth Center at Swedish/Issaquah.
