USD to Honor Coinstar Executive
J. Scott Di Valerio, chief financial officer of Coinstar, Inc., and a resident of Sammamish, will be honored by the University of San Diego on April 28.
Di Valerio, who has more than 25 years of experience in finance, operations, and management with high-growth, world-class organizations, will receive the Author E. Hughes Award for Career Achievement.
Di Valerio’s former positions include serving as president of the Americas for the Lenovo Group, corporate vice president of Microsoft Corporation’s Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Division and as a partner at PriceWaterhouseCoopers in San Diego and Prague, Czech Republic.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from USD in 1985.
Di Valerio is a strong supporter and advocate for the proper development and education of children and is a member of the board of trustees for Childhaven, a Seattle-based nonprofit organization dedicated to stopping the cycle of abuse and neglect, and strengthening family and child relationships.
He is also a member of the USD School of Business Administration Board of Advisors.
The Hughes achievement award, named after USD’s longest-serving president, is presented annually to a graduate of each school at USD in recognition of extraordinary career achievement. Recipients embody the mission and values of the university by excelling in their professions, impacting their organizations and industries, personifying extraordinary professional and ethical leadership and demonstrating their commitment to USD’s continued vitality.
“Scott exemplifies the spirit of innovation, excellence and social responsibility we strive to instill in all our graduates,” said David Pyke, dean of USD’s School of Business Administration. “We are very proud to honor him.”
Di Valerio and his wife, Shara, have three children.
USD has recognized more than 150 distinguished alumni since the inception of the Alumni Honors program more than 17 years ago.
