Students at Evergreen Academy in Issaquah celebrated Earth Day (April 22) by releasing hundreds of ladybugs back into the environment. During the celebration, preschoolers scattered across the schoolyard to place countless ladybugs onto nearby plants, flowers and trees. Students and teachers also planted flowers to beautify the school’s playground and surrounding campus.
Evergreen Academy’s annual Earth Day celebration serves as a chance to combine learning with fun, as students have been studying the biological defense system that ladybugs create for the environment. As one of nature’s most helpful creatures, ladybugs feed on aphids (plant lice) that are harmful to gardens, trees and shrubs.
