Preventing Kitchen Fires!

Fire Prevention Week is October 6-12, but Eastside Fire & Rescue uses the entire month to help spread the fire safety message.
Did you know:
* Two out of every five fires starts in the kitchen
* Unattended cooking was a factor in 34% of the reported home fires
*Be sure to stay in the kitchen when you are cooking, frying, grilling, broiling, or boiling food
*When you are simmering, baking, or roasting food, check it regularly, stay in the home, and use a timer to remind you
*Keep a pan lid next to the stove in case you can place over the pan to smother the fire out
* If you have young children, have a "Kid-Free" zone 3 feet from the stove, microwave or any other cooking appliance
*Clean up food and grease from burners and stovetops

Always keep a fire extinguisher in the kitchen and know how to use it in case of fire.  If you are unable to put the fire out, call 911 immediately, get out and stay out!
