Adopt This Pet: Diesel the Black Lab

Do you have room in your family for Diesel?

I've always had a soft spot in my heart for older dogs, and Diesel is no exception.

Many people worry that they need to get a puppy so that the dog lives with them a long time. My thought is that older dogs deserve a wonderful family so they can continue to live out the rest of their lives. Diesel doesn't want people to look at his age (7 years old), but instead see all the fun he has still in him!

In addition, for those people that have experience with labs, you know that 7 years is not very old! Diesel is a purebred black lab that would make the perfect addition to a family here in Sammamish.

Beside feeling good inside for giving an older dog the rest of their life, a potential adopter will appreciate how easily adult dogs like Diesel can adapt to a household. I always believe that adult rescue dogs know they have been 'saved' and appreciate being with a loving family. Diesel is polite, healthy and mild mannered. He is great with house training and likes other dogs. He woud be a perfect dog for a walking partner as long as you didn't mind being pulled a little.  He does want to chase the neighborhood cat as he is walking by. But as his foster parents point out, what lab doesn't want to run when the chase is on?

Here are more great details about Diesel, written by his foster family:

Diesel is a very good boy and a happy soul. He loves to be petted, rolls over onto his back and nudges you until you rub his belly. When you're done, he will let you know that he would rather you continue, with some encouraging nudges!

He is very smart, and knows the commands for 'sit', 'lie down', and 'stay'. He is also so clever he learned how to escape his crate, so crate training is a work in progress - and he is currently doing well without one.

His tail had the end docked off due to injury but it will heal and be just fine.

Diesel doesn't beg and takes his time eating his own meals, which is a nice change from many dogs!

He is good on a leash - pulls a bit, but quickly settles down. He is quite fascinated by ducks on his walks.

Diesel is very excited to find his forever family - hopefully yours!
