Adopt This Pet: Sweet Strawberry Fields Needs a Home With TLC

If you're looking for a loyal adult pet and you have time to help nurse a sweet dog back to good health, read about Strawberry Fields, a dog as sweet as her name.

Are you looking for a loyal friend to brighten up your winter? Strawberry Fields will certainly do that for you. SF is a loyal follower who adores being part of a family and loves other dogs. Since she is an adult, she is an easy dog to adjust to a new household.

In addition, by adopting an adult dog and not a puppy, you are lending support to the many adult dogs that are looking for homes. It is easy for someone to want a puppy, but many times, once that pup is one or two years old, no one wants it anymore.

This is probably what happened to Strawberry.

She was dropped off at the county shelter with a bad skin condition. Motley Zoo has been taking her for veterinarian care and she is on the mend. She now needs a family that will love her and continue to help her get well. Strawberry is very deserving of a loving home, and after all that she has been through she is hoping for her forever family.

In return, she will give you unending devotion and a great pal to hang around with.  If you are intrigued by Strawberry and her story...please read on.

Notes from Strawberry’s Foster Home: Strawberry was surrendered with a severe case of demodex, a completely treatable skin condition. It was so bad that she also developed a staph infection. She is on medication for all of this as well as pain medication, and she's now on the road to recovery, but she will need a lot of baths and it will take time for her fur to grow back in. This is not a contagious condition and we expect a full recovery! She is a little underweight, as she has not been very interested in eating due to pain. Her appetite is improving as her skin improves, so we expect she'll gain weight soon. She is otherwise healthy, will be spayed (cannot spay until demodex and staph infection are under control), microchipped, flea treated, dewormed, and is current on vaccines.

Notes about Strawberry’s Temperament: Strawberry Fields is such a happy dog, which considering how much pain she is in, speaks volumes about her wonderful temperment! She is great with everything that moves—other dogs, cats, kids, adults—there isn't anyone out there that she doesn't want to be friends with! She is a "pack" girl and likes to curl up and sleep with her foster doggy companions. She wants to be part of the family unit and does not like to be alone. Now that she is able to walk around (her feet had been so swollen from the demodex that it was too painful for her to move much), she follows her foster mother all over the house. Once the kids are home from school, she's more than happy to share space with them too. She's a good girl and doesn't jump on the kindergartner or try to trample her, so you can trust her with the short people. :) Strawberry's a little shadow. Very content to be in the same room and not overly needy. She's affectionate with the whole family and isn't particular with whom she spends her time.

She has not been tested on leash because her skin is healing and a collar would break her skin and make it bleed so at the moment she isn't going on walks, just backyard breaks and romps. She doesn't like to get her feet wet, so she doesn't prefer to stay in the backyard for too long if it's raining. She also gets cold easily since she doesn't have much fur but a sweater would be too rough on her skin so she needs to be in a warm house while she recuperates. When she comes in from outside on these early chilly mornings, she'll shake and gets snuggled with a blanket until she warms up. She's a follower and mimics the other dogs that she's staying with when it's time to go out, etc. Because of this, she's been an extremely easy pup to housebreak and hasn't had any accidents since she's been able to go outside with the rest of the "pack".

While her foster was doing some training with the other dogs on "sit", poor Strawberry tried to follow the command but couldn't sit because her hind legs and underbelly are too sore! But she's obviously a smart girl and will be easily trained once her skin is better. She works well for praise and treats. She also has a very gentle mouth and takes treats great from kids and adults. She only wants to please you and be loved! She is happy all the time and wags her tail constantly. And now that she's feeling better, she's starting to run around and play more, galloping around like a baby hippo. Do you have room in your heart and home for this loving girl?

Motley Zoo Animal Rescue is a local animal rescue group located in Redmond. It does not have its own shelter, but instead uses foster homes to care for the dogs and cats. All of their needy pets looking for their forever homes can be found on the website at www.motleyzoo.org. The dogs and cats share the home with their foster family, are spayed/neutered, given vaccines, dewormed, flea treated and microchipped. Please email motley zoo at adopt@motleyzoo.org to request an adoption application so that you can meet Strawberry.
