Cold temperatures have prompted the National Weather Service in Seattle to issue a Special Weather Statement Friday morning for Woodinville and the Puget Sound area.
According to the NWS:
Icy roads will present a travel hazard through sunday at least... A cold air mass over Western Washington will result in some icy roads and sidewalks this morning through at least Sunday.
Obviously this problem will be worst at night and in the morning when temperatures are below freezing...but areas in deep shade could stay icy all day.
Patchy freezing fog will locally reduce visibility to a half mile or less and worsen the hazard during the night and morning hours...mainly in the South Puget Sound region...Southwest interior...and along the coast.
Most of the Western Washington lowlands will have temperatures below freezing this morning...ranging from the mid 20s to lower 30s.
Saturday and Sunday mornings will be colder...with the overnight lows in the upper teens and 20s. Daytime highs each day will be only in the mid 30s to lower 40s.
Snow flurries are possible Saturday afternoon and evening...but the most recent forecast models suggest it is unlikely. Even if flurries do develop...accumulations are not expected.
King County issued a news release Thursday that said they are beefing up road maintenance crews due to the weather.
