Neighborhood Walk Series in August to Support Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvements

The City of Issaquah and pedestrian activists Feet First are promoting a Neighborhood Walk Series to highlights local assets and identify areas needing improvement.

Issaquah residents have partnered with local pedestrian activists Feet First to create a series of fun neighborhood walks throughout August and September, according to a news release.

The Feet First neighborhood walks are intended to motivate people who live, work and play in Issaquah to explore their environment, share their observations and encourage people to walk more. Trained Neighborhood Walking Ambassadors will facilitate walks and conversation to highlight what they love about their community and how they can make their neighborhood safer, easier and more inviting to walk in. Information will be collected and incorporated into the City’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Action Plan.

Feet First has been working with the City of Issaquah to improve the City’s walkability. Director of the Office of Sustainability, David Fujimoto said, “The City is interested in highlighting walking as part of creating a healthy place to live, and encouraging people who are excited about that mission to become Walking Ambassadors for Issaquah.”  Walks will take place all over the city. Popular locations with the ambassadors include Downtown, the Highlands and Gilman Boulevard.

The Issaquah Neighborhood Walk Series plays an important role in inspiring a shift to foot-friendly development in Issaquah by giving participants the chance to share observations and recommendations, which will be included in the City’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Action Plan.
