Great Escape: Celebrate the Sunny Weather With a Hike at Poo Poo Point

Meet the challenge of Poo Poo Point, near Issaquah, before the rain returns.

One thing I love about living in Washington is that when there is sun, we all get out and celebrate. Saturday and Sunday will certainly be days to celebrate. The weather experts are predicting these two days will be the warmest we have seen since last September.

What better way to enjoy the sun than by challenging yourself with a hike at Poo Poo Point. If you enjoy hiking uphill and getting an invigorating workout while  enjoying breathtaking views, this hike is perfect.

Poo Poo Point is located about five minutes east of Issaquah along the Issaquah-Hobart Road. One of the first sights you'll see: Paragliders sailing down. Poo Poo Point is their jumping off point if the weather is right.

From the parking lot, it is a good two to three hour hike, depending on how long you plan to stay on the top and how fast you can hike. Bring lots of water and snacks (and this weekend don't forget the sunscreen and a hat) because it is up for almost the entire 2,000-foot elevation gain.

Once you get to the top,  you will not only feel accomplished, but you will enjoy the amazing views of Lake Sammamish, Squak Mountain and Issaquah. Eat some lunch, watch the paragliders and relax.

The way down is a breeze, of course, and will take half the time as it took you going up. Once back to your car,  drive through downtown Issaquah to enjoy one of the eateries that have popped up in recent years. Your options include pizza, Mexican food, BBQ,  a brewhouse or seafood, just to name a few.

Even if our "summer" only lasts three days (it is supposed to rain by Tuesday), get out there and enjoy it.
