Issaquah Native Loses Foot in Boston Bombings, Vows to Dance Again

Adrianne Haslet-Davis, a dance instructor, was at the finish line of the Boston Marathon when the two explosions hit.

A dance instructor from Issaquah who lost her left foot in the horrific bombings at last week's Boston Marathons has vowed to dance again—and plans to participate in next year's marathon.

Adrianne Haslet-Davis, an Issaquah High School graduate, was watching the race from the finish line with her husband, Adam. The second blast hit both Haslet-Davis and her husband, knocking the couple to the ground.

“I thought we were fine, until I looked down and realized that my left foot was practically detached," Haslet-Davis told the Boston Herald. "That’s when I started screaming my head off.”

Haslet-Davis' husband, an Air Force captain who had just returned from Afghanistan, used his belt to form a tourniquet and stop his wife's bleeding. She was taken to Boston Medical Center, where doctors were forced to amputate her left foot and ankle.

But Haslet-Davis, 32, has resolved to dance again—and even has plans to run in next year's Boston Marathon.

“I can’t let some (expletive) come along and steal my whole life. So, I’ll dance again," she told the Herald. "And next year, though I’ve never been a runner, yes, I plan to run the marathon.”

Friends and family have set up an online profile to track Haslet-Davis' recovery and raise funds for her medical expenses. Click here to find out more or contribute.
