Last Gasp Registration for 2012 Issaquah Run

Today, Sept. 29, is the last chance for late registration for the annual fun run. A number of streets will be closed on Sunday morning, Sept. 30, for the event.

Last Gasp Registration will be available at the Issaquah Sports Authority, at 1185 NW Gilman Blvd, for the 2012 Issaquah Run on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

The 36th annual Issaquah Run will take place on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012. Once again over 2,500 participants will take part in the 10K Run, the 5K Run/Walk and the Kids Run.

The Issaquah Run is produced by The Foundation of the Rotary Club of Issaquah. Issaquah Rotary Foundation is continually redefining itself through new members, new vision and activities, and new forms of local and global service. Its meetings are an informal gathering of friends who work together toward a common purpose – the betterment of our community and world. Rotary’s motto “Service Above Self” amply describes what Rotary is all about.

The following roads will be closed to accommodate the Issaquah Run on Sept. 30:

From 6-11 a.m.:

  • Sunset Way between Second Avenue and Newport Way
  • Front Street between Newport Way and Gilman Boulevard

 

From 8-11 a.m.:

  • Rainier Boulevard North between Northwest Dogwood and Juniper Street
  • Northeast Dogwood Street between Front Street North and Third Avenue Northeast (open to local traffic only)
  • Northeast Gilman Boulevard (limited access to businesses available – traffic restricted to one lane)
  • 12th Avenue Northwest between Maple Street and Gilman Boulevard
  • Northwest Maple Street south of Northwest Gilman Boulevard
  • Seventh Avenue Northwest between Northwest Gilman Boulevard and Juniper Street
  • Second Ave Southeast between East Sunset Way and Front Street South
  • Northwest Holly Street between Rainier Boulevard North and Second Avenue Northwest
  • Northwest Juniper Street between Rainier Boulevard North and Seventh Avenue Northwest

 

In addition, the depot parking lot will be closed.

What a wonderful sight will return to the plaza when the sunshine calls back all the families with happy, giggling children. Washington already has a relatively regressive tax structure. The "choke the government" solution seems carried way too far.

I thank the author for his well thought out arguments regarding these important transportationRead More issues in Washington state. While I believe some of the ideas presented are debatable, for example I believe that a vital and well used transit system ought to be part of our congestion relief plan in metropolitan areas, the lack of realistic funding options for this system cannot be ignored. However, our legislature (both parties included) seems to place a higher priority on "no new taxes" than creating a sustainable future for the state in many areas, including the transportation system. More than that, though, we live in a state whose citizens have varied interests and priorities. Most of all, we need our government to set priorities so that citizen interests and needs can be reasonably served. It seems we are pretending that we can base tax policies and tax rates exclusively on individual self-interest, as is often the consequence "no new taxes" scheme (e.g. if I don't get a direct benefit for myself, I won't support paying for it). This seems to me to be as much a part of this problem as current transportation system priorities.

They are considering options that would charge commuters to use a new lane on I-405 & charge for the existing carpool lane too (even if you have two people in the car!)
