One Click: Weekend Guide From Sammamish Patch

Many things to do in the Sammamish area for the Memorial Day weekend.

With the Memorial Day weekend already underway for many Sammamish residents, Sammamish Patch offers up our easy way to find things to do.

Some events might already be listed. But this is a good, one-stop (rather, um, one click) way to get what you need.

So, let's get going - and thank you from Sammamish Patch to those who have served in the U.S. military since the country began.

Memorial Day Weekend events:

Northwest Folklife Festival: It's one of the biggest music and arts events in Seattle. It started Friday at 11 a.m. and goes through Monday. It's at the Seattle Center.

High School Soccer Part I: Games are on. Really. And these games for the boys are the state semifinals. Eastlake High School and Skyline High School will play Friday at 6 and 8 p.m., respectively, at Harry Lang Stadium in Tacoma.

High School Soccer Part II (UPDATED): Sammamish soccer fans might want to make the trek to Harry Lang Stadium in Tacoma on Saturday, too. and  will play in the Class 4A state championship at 4 p.m.

On Friday, Eastlake beat Kentwood (2-1) and Skyline was victorious over Stadium (3-2), Sammamish Patch contributing sports writer Scott Whittum reported.

Teen Mic Night at Old Fire House Teen Center: For young people ages 13 to 18 years old, come on out at 7 p.m. Bring your creativity: Songs, poems, spoken word narratives.

Track Bicycle Racing at Marymoor: The season is underway. If the weather is good, riders will be circling the track at 7 p.m. at the park near Redmond. Keep an eye out for the break aways.

High School State Track and Field Competition: It's underway - and continues through Saturday at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma. Among the students who are competing: Athletes from Skyline High School.

On Friday, Skyline High School's Kasen Williams broke the state record in triple jump with a jump of 50 feet 9.75 inches, Patch.com sports editor Mike Baldwin reported.

The Museum of Flight: There will be aviation activities in Seattle and aircraft on display, including a B-17 bomber. The World War II-era plane was born in Seattle. On Saturday, there will be vintage warplanes, too.

Memorial Day Ceremony in Issaquah: On Monday at 10 a.m., join veterans and others and pay your respects to those who have served in the U.S. military. VFW 3436 is sponsoring the service at Hillside Cemetery.

There will be other Memorial Day events in Washington state, as well. At 3 p.m., there will be a National Moment of Remembrance.

House Hunt: Homes in Sammamish are for sale. These are some that will be open this weekend to tour.

Get Out: This is our regular weekend planner. We like to think it was inspired by how Elaine Benes from Seinfeld could state those words. It's chock-full of good stuff, as the saying goes. A few items are on One Click, too. But, ahem, there are events in Redmond in which beer will be served. It is Seattle Beer Week. Also, gardener Ciscoe Morris will speak in Woodinville on Saturday. And: Movies in Kirkland!

Play Date: Looking for family activities this weekend? We have them. On Monday, Kidz Bounce in the Preston Industrial Park will be open for play.

Memorial Day Closures: If you need a list of what's open and what's closed in the Sammamish area on Monday, Sammamish Patch has a list.

We too, love having our Farmers' Market return! Opening day was a bit weather-challenged. ThankRead More you merchants for enduring the wet and cold for our new extended hours! What a wonderful sight will return to the plaza when the sunshine calls back all the families with happy, giggling children. Market day is a date of dinner out (side) & shopping (vegetables, fruits and now HedgeHog Toffee) with my husband. Doesn't get much better than that! SEE YOUR THERE! Susan Gerend

Agreed Mark, Much as this solution seems crazy, some things are worth paying for (law and order, aRead More decent safety net, good schools and yes roads). I do blame the tax hawks though. Washington already has a relatively regressive tax structure. The "choke the government" solution seems carried way too far.

I thank the author for his well thought out arguments regarding these important transportationRead More issues in Washington state. While I believe some of the ideas presented are debatable, for example I believe that a vital and well used transit system ought to be part of our congestion relief plan in metropolitan areas, the lack of realistic funding options for this system cannot be ignored. However, our legislature (both parties included) seems to place a higher priority on "no new taxes" than creating a sustainable future for the state in many areas, including the transportation system. More than that, though, we live in a state whose citizens have varied interests and priorities. Most of all, we need our government to set priorities so that citizen interests and needs can be reasonably served. It seems we are pretending that we can base tax policies and tax rates exclusively on individual self-interest, as is often the consequence "no new taxes" scheme (e.g. if I don't get a direct benefit for myself, I won't support paying for it). This seems to me to be as much a part of this problem as current transportation system priorities.

It gets worse folks. I was part of a selected focus group a few weeks ago of people who live alongRead More I-405 conducted by a well-known marketing research firm and paid for by WSDOT. They are considering options that would charge commuters to use a new lane on I-405 & charge for the existing carpool lane too (even if you have two people in the car!)
