Patch Picks: Pools to Visit, as Sammamish Considers a Facility

Next week, the city of Sammamish will discuss and listen to residents about possibly building a community center with swimming facilities.

Patch Picks: Swimming facilities to visit (and swim, if you want).

With the Sammamish City Council and city government set to talk about the possibility of a community center, one that might have swimming facilities, Sammamish Patch thought a quick list of aquatic centers in the region might be fitting.

Similar to what city leaders have done, residents can visit these swim facilities to see if it's something that they're willing to support on the Plateau. Of course, if you have a busy schedule and can't make a visit to these places, that's OK, too.

In the spirit of pool or no pool, here are five to consider:

  • The Mountlake Terrace aquatic center has received much attention and many awards. The facility offers a lazy river with currents and water basketball hoops.
  • Closer to Sammamish, the Sammamish Club in Issaquah has a 25-yard lap pool and spa. Since many Microsoft families from Sammamish might use the pool and the club is known in the area, we list it here.
  • In Newcastle, there is the Coal Creek Family Y. The facility has two indoor pools. It is one of the newest Y facilities in the Seattle region.
  • In Federal Way, there is the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center, which has an Olympic-sized pool.
  • Finally, and you might need to wait until the summer to actually see the building, but Kitsap County is expected to have an 85,000-square-foot Y facility. It's been named the Haselwood Family Y. There's a video showing the construction and two pools are scheduled to be built.

Those are just some examples of the swimming facilities in the Seattle region.

Editor's note: As a disclosure, I worked as a membership services representative at the Coal Creek Family Y before I started my job at Patch.com.
