4th of July: Plan Independence Day in Issaquah, Sammamish, & Beyond

It's time again to get ready for July 4, and there's no shortage of Sammamish-Issaquah fun, including hanging out with Patch and visiting the Sammamish Plateau for fireworks.

Happy Birthday, USA!

Is it really coming up next week? Wow. It's time to start planning for festivities (and maybe hoping for a little good weather) for Wednesday, July 4. Please remember, personal fireworks are prohibited in city limits of Issaquah and Sammamish!

Issaquah Down Home Fourth

First, come visit Sammamish-Issaquah Patch at the Down Home 4th of July Celebration in Issaquah which also includes a presented by the , plus super fun events including:

From the Kids, Pets ‘n Pride Parade to a pie-eating contest, Issaquah’s Down Home Fourth of July celebration and Heritage Festival will offer something for everyone 11 a.m.-2 p.m. July 4 in historic downtown Issaquah!

The parade will start at 11 a.m. at Rainier Avenue and Northwest Dogwood Street.

After the parade, join us on Veterans' Memorial Park for three-legged races, pony rides, face painting, bouncy houses, live entertainment and glimpses into Issaquah’s history. Dig in for prizes at the Hay Hunt, or enter your pet slug in the official Slug Speed Races and Beauty Pageant (bring your own slug!) -- ().

Be sure to save room for the pie eating contest, which starts around 1:30 p.m.

Produced by the Greater Issaquah Chamber of Commerce Festival Office, this celebration is presented by the City of Issaquah, with support from the City of Issaquah Arts Commission and Issaquah History Museums.

The following roads will be closed from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. for the parade:

  • Front Street North from Northwest Gilman Boulevard to East Sunset Way
  • Rainier Boulevard North from Northwest Dogwood to Northwest Juniper
  • East Sunset Way from Front Street to Second Avenue Southeast
  • Front Street South from East Sunset Way to Newport Way Southwest

Then, don't miss the great event and fireworks display at Fourth on the Plateau, which still could use some great local volunteers!

We too, love having our Farmers' Market return! Opening day was a bit weather-challenged. ThankRead More you merchants for enduring the wet and cold for our new extended hours! What a wonderful sight will return to the plaza when the sunshine calls back all the families with happy, giggling children. Washington already has a relatively regressive tax structure. The "choke the government" solution seems carried way too far.

I thank the author for his well thought out arguments regarding these important transportationRead More issues in Washington state. While I believe some of the ideas presented are debatable, for example I believe that a vital and well used transit system ought to be part of our congestion relief plan in metropolitan areas, the lack of realistic funding options for this system cannot be ignored. However, our legislature (both parties included) seems to place a higher priority on "no new taxes" than creating a sustainable future for the state in many areas, including the transportation system. More than that, though, we live in a state whose citizens have varied interests and priorities. Most of all, we need our government to set priorities so that citizen interests and needs can be reasonably served. It seems we are pretending that we can base tax policies and tax rates exclusively on individual self-interest, as is often the consequence "no new taxes" scheme (e.g. if I don't get a direct benefit for myself, I won't support paying for it). This seems to me to be as much a part of this problem as current transportation system priorities.

They are considering options that would charge commuters to use a new lane on I-405 & charge for the existing carpool lane too (even if you have two people in the car!)
