Play Date! Great Family Events and Deals in the Sammamish Area

Here are fun activities and some sweet deals for the whole family this coming week.

EVENTS FOR FAMILIES, June 8 – June 15

June 8: Compost Happens! Food and Yard Waste Composting for Beginners at the

4 to 5 p.m.

The whole family can learn how to collect food scraps in the kitchen, what to put in a backyard compost bin, what goes in the city yard waste collection container and much more. Presented by Tom Watson, manager of the King County EcoConsumer public education program and columnist for The Seattle Times.  This program is presented in partnership with the . You are invited to visit the market next door after the program’s conclusion.

June 8:  Sammamish Farmers Market

4 to 8 p.m.

Bring the whole family to purchase locally-grown produce, as well as flowers, berries, cheese and meats. Enjoy dinner while you visit the market. Vendors servea variety of delicious to-go meals, including pizza, pad thai, meat and veggie wraps. Also: Build your own ice cream sandwiches. This week's activity for kids visiting the market is “make your own tissue paper trees.” No dogs are allowed at the market except for guide and service dogs.

June 8: Student Wednesday at the

1 to 5 p.m.

Students of all ages are invited to visit BAM free every second Wednesday of the month.

Cost: Free but student must print, fill out and bring this online coupon. 

June 11 and 12: Tastin’ and Racin’ Festival at Lake Sammamish State Park

9 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 11 and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m June 12

Family Friendly event on the shore of Lake Sammamish, featuring live music, hydros, children’s activities, a boat show, vintage car shows, beverage and food vendors. Family fun area will include face painting, pony rides, giant slide, inflatables and a huge park play area. Visit by the Seafair Pirates on Sunday.

Cost: $10 general admission, ages six to 16 and seniors age 65 and older, $5, ages five and under are free.

June 14: Members-Only Hour at the in

9 to 10 a.m.

Members of the museum enjoy a special members-only play time every Tuesday and Saturday morning from 9 to 10 a.m.

Cost: Free as a benefit of membership

June 18:Mother Daughter Book Club at the Sammamish Library at 3 p.m. 

Moms with daughters, ages 10 to 13, are invited to read Naming Mayaby Uma Krishnaswami and discuss the book with the club on June 18.
