Resident Report: Bear Spotted Outside Sammamish House Monday Night

A teenager spotted the animal in a neighborhood near Northeast Sammamish Park, her mother said Tuesday.

A bear stood on its rear legs Monday night outside a house in a Sammamish neighborhood west of , resident Jann Ledbetter said Tuesday morning.

The animal was seen by Ledbetter's daughter, Maya, who used a cell phone to take a photo of the animal. No one was hurt in the incident.

She was sitting in the family room when she saw the bear come out from the woods in our backyard. He got up on his hind legs to check in our bird feeder and then walked toward the patio where she took this photo. He then went along the side of the house toward the front yard. Maya spotted the bear again right next to her car in the driveway before he turned around and headed back into the woods behind our house.

We live on a very natural, wooded lot right next to Sahalee and we've had plenty of wildlife: Raccoons, opossum, coyotes, deer and even two bobcat sightings...but this is the first bear!!!

In recent months, there have been other cases of bear sightings in Sammamish, including a June case in which Michael Pacholec's family spotted the animals in their part of the city. Pacholec writes a .
