State Route 520 Bridge Closes for Construction This Weekend

State Route 520 will close for construction late Friday night to Sunday morning.

It's not too early to start thinking about what you're doing this weekend -- especially if it involves getting across Lake Washington. The State Route 520 Bridge is slated to be closed from 11 p.m. Friday Sept. 13 to 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 15 -- in plenty of time for the 5:30 p.m. Seahawks-49ers game at CenturyLink Field.

According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, crews will continue to pour concrete columns for the West Connection Bridge and others in Medina will shift lanes for the Eastside Transit and HOV Project.

The West Connection Bridge is a temporary structure that will connect the State Route 520 bridge replacement that's currently under construction with the existing State Route 520 roadway on the Seattle end of the bridge, according to the state.

Construction on Interstate 5 between Olive Way and Lakeview Boulevard in Seattle also could affect Interstate 405 traffic, according to the state. That portion of I-5 will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13 until 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16 while contractor crews replace worn and aging bridge expansion joints, according to the state.

During these closures, also expect heavier traffic on Interstate 90 and additional delays on I-5, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.
