The Not-Its! to Bring Pink, Pop and Clear Lyrics to Kids' Concert Saturday at Sammamish Library

One of the band's goals is to make kids dance. There will be two shows - one at 11 a.m. and the other at 1 p.m.

Editor's note: This event at the Sammamish Library is over. Check The Not-Its! website, listed below, for other performances dates.

Sammamish parents who are still looking for a Saturday activity for the kids are in luck - musical luck, that is.

The Seattle band - The Not-Its! - will bring their clear tunes and love of bounce and lyrics to the  for two free, all-ages shows at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Library staff encourage people to arrive early because seating might be limited.

The band is known for pink, as in ties and tutus, and poppy songs. "They are on a mission to make kids dance, with up-tempo, power-pop hits families love," the group said on its website.

They are blazing a trail in what many have dubbed "kindie rock" - which mixes "indie" music for kids.

"The Not-Its! combine crunchy guitars with smooth, four-part harmonies, all nestled within 'fantastic danceable pop gems about gettin' fancy, birthday parties, bath time and intergalactic play dates,'" as the band said on its website.

By performing at the Sammamish Library, the band is playing in a city where the number of youths is now more than 15,600.

Sarah Shannon, the group's lead singer, also was a member of the indie band, Velocity Girl, in the 1990s. That band hailed from the Washington, D.C. area.

As a mom, though, she decided to mix her love of music with her love of her kids.

For Sammamish families, the group's appearance marks the second well-known band to play the Plateau. In March, Caspar Babypants - a band which includes Chris Ballew from The Presidents of the United States of America - played at the Sammamish Library.

Sammamish residents also are fortunate: Because of its modern, light-filled design and central location in the city, the Sammamish Library recently was honored by Library Journal as one of the top institutions of its kind in the country.

What else about The Not-Its!?

Parents and kids might like something the band has posted on its website - a karaoke lyrics and coloring book page.

Use the lyrics to sing along with the band members while you're at home. Download pages, many with cartoon images of the band members, so you can use your creativity with colors.

Remember: Pink works well with The Not-Its!
