Week in Review: A new Hospital on the Plateau, a Bike Drive for Africa, a Pair of Talented Singers, and Plenty of Thanks to all the moms out There

It was another busy week in Sammamish. Here's a quick look back at all the happenings.

A lot happened in the last week. May really got going, schools are starting to wind down, and people are starting to plan their summer adventures. And despite the cold and rainy weather, people came out in support of community events. Here's a look back: 

Monday: ’s Kasen Williams won two events at the on April 30. Williams took first place in the long jump competition and first place in the high jump event. Williams was just one of several Sammamish-area athletes who performed well at the event.

Tuesday: Bill Thorness’ regular focused on the stories of a few adventurous commuters who decided to trade the gas pedal for the bike pedal and have gained healthier, less stressful lives as a result.

Wednesday: Parents, want to send your kid to school with something other than a PB&J and a bag of potato chips? Check out Kathleen Miller’s informative article on . She includes tips for putting together lunches that are fun too eat and good for your kids.

Thursday: Last week was a busy one for Sammamish’s police deputies. lowlights include several arrests and yet another residential burglary.

Friday: Swedish is opening a on the Issaquah Highlands, which will bring quality healthcare and plenty of good jobs to the area. Read all about it in Brad Wong’s excellent preview.

Friday also featured a pair of Whiz Kids from . Talented vocalists both medaled at the state singing competition. 

Saturday: Sammamish’s ARAS Foundation held its annual collection drive at and brought in hundreds of bicycles that will go to recipients in Ghana, Africa. These donated bicycles will help people get around to all the different places they need to go during the day.

Love the outdoors and want to push yourself physically? Heidi Dietrich put together a piece on the , known by some as summer camp for runners. The challenging event covers 113 miles of trails over six days, and requires teammates to cover the course together.

Sunday: And for Mother's Day, how about some interesting on motherhood. And finally, a to all the moms out there.
