Week in Review: From art 'Socks' to Little League 'Opening Day,' Sammamish had a Full Schedule

There also was police news and a City Councilmember announced she was going to step down.

If you're just joining us, as the saying goes, on this chilly Sunday evening, here's a quick look at the Week in Review.

Sammamish style, of course. And in the form of links to stories.

Monday: Those Sammamish art "socks" on 228th Avenue Southeast entered their spring phase and some residents disliked the winter ones. In case you missed it from last Friday (April 1), young Sammamish musicians played classical piano, a mean one at that, at Benaroya Hall in Seattle.

Joan Probala, Sammamish Patch real estate columnist, reminded people about the importance of home inspections - both for sales and in the long run.

Tuesday: Patch bicycling columnist Bill Thorness gave a solid rundown of legislation before state lawmakers and especially bills that affect two-wheeled pedalers. Also, there are new guidelines for kids and their babyseats in cars.

Wednesday: In City Council news, Michele Petitti told her colleagues that she would step down - she has been on the Council for nearly 10 years. Parents in the Redmond area on Tuesday night voiced concerns about the STEM school, which the  wants to build.

Sammamish Patch Kathleen Miller writes about going to Disneyland and offers money- and time-saving suggestions for Seattle-area families.

Thursday: The week's Sammamish police blotter listed crimes in which thieves took over $24,000 in goods from a family's house and a man swiped a $6.48 platter of sushi.

King County Assessor Lloyd Hara talked to the Kiwanis Club of Sammamish on Wednesday about property taxes - and said that some in King County might pay more residentail taxes in 2012. He said if commercial property dollars are hurting in a specific taxing district, the possibility could increase. Read the story because there are nuances (if you're inclined).

Friday: The week's Whiz Kid nod went to an dancer who won a scholarship (congratulations, by the way).

Also on Friday, Sammamish Patch noted the "SAMMI Bunch" - a great video put together for the city's annual community service awards. Yes, it's a great twist from the "Brady Bunch." We figured we'd highlight it for those who missed the .

In sports and academic news, student Alex Foreman earned a nice honor for her lacrosse skills.

The Great Escape feature looked at Leavenworth, where people can find a bit of "Bavaria" in Washington state.

Saturday: Heidi Dietrich, editor of Edmonds Patch, talked about open-water swimming. Given that some Sammamish residents swim in , including , we at Sammamish Patch thought it would be a good read (it is, too).

Sammamish Patch, and other Patch sites as well, had a reminder that the YWCA needs spring basket donations. Kids will benefit.

Eastlake Little League held its "Opening Day" with teams and parents gathering at and at .

Sunday: Sammamish Patch spotted a resident on Saturday, who decided to make a public intersection a bit greener.

There was a reminder about Monday evening's meeting at City Hall to talk about whether or not the city should build a community center (possibly one with swimming facilities).

Finally, the "Passport to Woodinville" wine event is coming up. So, here's a story about the event and dates for tastings.
