Week in Review (in and Near Sammamish): Harley Riders on the Plateau, Possible Teacher Job Cuts and Mock DUI Drill

Sammamish had another busy week, full of news and events. Here's a quick look back to get you started for the coming seven days.

The weekend finally brought the sun to Sammamish, both the Plateau and the land along Lake Sammamish. Just in time, too.

And the past week?

Well, that brought assorted news and information, as Sammamish residents stayed busy with an Earth Week celebration and other events.

A quick look back:

Monday: Pets are still in need. This time, Casper the Cocker is looking for a "forever" home. Greg Johnston, editor of Kirkland Patch, pointed out that bald eagles are in that Eastside city. Keep an eye out for them, if you're there.

Weeds also were a topic in a story by Woodinville Patch Editor Annie Archer. Um, given the sun, they might be popping up more than you'd like.

Sammamish Patch also put out the call for bloggers. There are many voices out there - and Sammamish Patch wants to contribute to the collective conversation.

Tuesday: Biking was the topic for Patch columnist Bill Thorness. In this week's column, he talked about May as Bike to Work Month.

Wednesday: The city of Sammamish announced three locations that might possibly the site of a community aquatic center - should residents and the City Council decide that is what they want. The next public meeting is on Monday, May 9 at 6:30 p.m. - at , of course.

In the Sammamish police blotter, there was news of people stopped for driving under the influence and young people caught with marijuana. Sammamish Patch parenting columnist Kathleen Miller addressed a topic that parents might not want to think about - lice. But it's important to know about should lice arrive in the family.

Thursday: On Wednesday night, facing a significant drop in state dollars, the Issaquah School Board voted to trim $2.74 million from its 2011-12 academic year. That includes possibly cutting 36 teaching jobs.

Also, Forbes.com ranked public schools in Sammamish as a strong value for the real estate dollar. The media company said the schools, operated by the and school districts, were ranked fifth best in the U.S. West.

Friday: Emergency and school officials at put together a mock DUI drill to show students what could happen if alochol and driving mix. And the week's "Whiz Kids" for Sammamish Patch were a smart, talented group from .

Also on Friday, Sammamish Patch had a story about the City Council removing more than $113,000 in debt from city books after a search for those who owe money. The city still wants to be paid.

Saturday: Heidi Dietrich, editor of Edmonds Patch, introduced people to Mel Preedy, a 78-year-old, who has finished over 400 marathons.

Sunday: A group of Eastside Harley Davidson owners on Saturday thundered up to Providence Marianwood, a nursing home in Issaquah and right next to Sammamish. Their goal: To give residents a chance to have the wind fly through their hair.

At on Saturday, residents gathered to celebrate Earth Day. There were booths, music, games and fun.
