All Sammamish Reads – The Art of Racing in the Rain

Citizens invited to participate in a city-wide reading event.

This year the residents of Sammamish are all invited to participate in our city-wide reading event: ALL SAMMAMISH READS. The Sammamish Library is spearheading the effort to offer this family friendly program.  Other partners include the City of Sammamish, the Sammamish Chamber of Commerce, Eastside Catholic School, and the Sammamish Friends of the Library.

You are probably already familiar with this type of program in which an entire community reads the same books and then participates in a variety of events surrounding the book and author.  We have selected Garth Stein’s novel The Art of Racing in the Rain as our book.  We’ll have programs and book discussion groups related to themes in the book throughout the months of July, August, and September at the Sammamish Library and at various locations throughout the city. To make our city-wide reading program more inclusive and appeal to a wide range of ages we will also offer Garth Stein’s juvenile fiction title: Racing in the Rain: My Life as a Dog. Kids can attend fun programs relating to dogs and cars!

On Tuesday, September 11 joins us for our main event! Author Garth Stein himself will be at the Eastside Catholic School gymnasium at 6:30pm to present a program about his highly acclaimed book. Copies of the books will be available for sale at this event.

So, pick up a copy of Garth Stein’s The Art of Racing in the Rain: A Novel and start reading! Copies of the two selected titles are available for check-out at the Sammamish Library. Copies will also be available for you to pick up and borrow at other locations around town. Call the library for more details and information about specific events 425-392-3130.
