'Chicago' to Open May 9 at Village Theatre

Village Theatre is bringing a production of the tony-award winning musical Chicago to Front Street in Issaquah for a month-long run, from May 9 to June 29.

Roxie Hart (Taryn Darr) and Velma Kelly (Desirée Davar) bring their "Razzle Dazzle" to Village Theatre for over 80 performances this May.

CHICAGO’s 1996 revival won six Tony Awards and is one of the longest running American musicals in Broadway history.

For Village Theatre’s final production of the 2012-2013 season, the two merry murderesses from the Cook County jail will paint the town, dance the Cell Block Tango and deliver All That Jazz seven times a week through July! In this fresh new production, that doesn’t forget its Fosse roots, Roxie and Velma seductively seek fame and fortune, remind us that he had it comin’ and aggressively flirt with danger.

The original book is by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse. The music is by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb and it’s based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins. The original Broadway production opened in 1975 and ran for over 930 performances. The acclaimed 2002 movie musical starring Renée Zellweger and Catherine Zeta Jones won six academy awards.  

Tickets go on sale May 1 at the Francis Gaudette box office and the Vilage Theatre's website.

For this highly anticipated regional production Taryn Darr plays Roxie Hart and Desirée Davar is Velma Kelly. Additional CHICAGO cast members include: Timothy McCuen Piggee (Billy Flynn), Richard Gray (Amos Hart), Ryan P. McCabe (Mary Sunshine), Shaunyce Omar (Matron Mama Morton). Kate Jaeger is the understudy for Matron Mama Morton. The ensemble players include: Trina Mills, Art Anderson, Eric Brotherson, Gabriel Corey, Indeah Thomaier, John David Scott, Katy Tabb, Kyle Johnson, Mara Solar, Natalie Ryder, Pam Turpen, Paul Flanagan and Adam Somers.  Ensemble understudies are Michael Feldman and Taylor Niemeyer. 

CHICAGO is directed by Steve Tomkins. Kristin Holland is the choreographer. Tim Symons is the music director with Tom Sturge as the scenic and lighting designer. Costume design is by Karen Ann Ledger, Brent Warwick is the sound designer.
