Istanbul's Grand Bazaar

The Sammamish Arts Commission is pleased to present a celebration of Turkish culture, customs and traditions on November 5, 2011 in the tradition of Istanbul’s Grand Bazaar - Kapali Carsi (Covered Market).  Live performances, exhibits and culinary tastes from Turkey will begin at 11:00 am and continue through the day until 5:30 pm in a transformed Sammamish City Hall.  The event is family friendly, free and open to public.

 Focusing on Turkey’s unique culture, the celebration will give visitors an opportunity to experience ancient traditions that exist in harmony with western influences. Istanbul’s grand bazaar – Kapali Carsi – is one of the largest and oldest covered bazaars in the world with 4,000 shops and dozens of restaurants. The essence of this unique experience will find its way to Sammamish on November 5 along with the opportunity for insight and understanding into this rich culture. 

The day-long event will include a variety of presentations and activities. Stage Performances  including Caucasus and Anatolian folk dances and Rom, Oriental, Azeri and Uzbek dancing. Visitors will also find cooking demonstrations, Turkish travel programs and workshops involving musical instruments and traditional costumes, as well as an art exhibit and a Kid’s Corner with arts and crafts and games. Something for everyone.
