SHLC Building Blocks Auction

Sammamish Hills Lutheran Church puts on a Building Blocks Auction to fundraise for their Global Missions work in Guatemala and Tanzania.

The Building Blocks Auction will be held at Mary Queen of Peace on April  21st 2012 and will raise funds to support two different global missions of the church. Part of the
proceeds will go towards the High School youth mission trip of 25 individuals to Antigua Guatemala to work with the God’s Child Project in June 2012. Funds raised will also support the continued construction of the Eben Ezer Lutheran Junior Seminary in Morogoro Tanzania to provide much needed science education to underserved youth in the sprawling rural diocese.

The God’s Child Project is a non-profit organization doing work in the poorest communities of Guatemala. Its programs, in and near Antigua, offer education and technical skills training to children and teenagers who would often otherwise face a life of poverty, disease, prostitution or crime. These programs offer a holistic  approach, and support not only the child but the entire family. SHLC’s youth will travel to Guatemala in late June and will work with The God’s Child Project in a variety
of the programs they offer, including the construction of four homes. Funds from the 2012 Building Blocks Auction will help pay volunteer expenses as well as the building materials for the homes and donations for the children and families.

Eben Ezer Lutheran Junior Seminary is the project of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania Morogoro Diocese, and will provide much-needed science education to hundreds of underserved youth in the sprawling rural diocese. SHLC teams have visited Morogoro twice (in 2008 and 2010) to observe the progress on this boarding school located just outside Morogoro. A lack of scientific education has caused Tanzania to slip behind neighboring countries,
such as Kenya, in improving its economy and infrastructure. Eben Ezer will provide a remedy for the lack of secondary schools in the Morogoro area while
offering an education grounded in faith. Funds raised by the 2012 auction will help with the continued construction of
laboratory buildings and dormitories and move the school closer to reality.

Help us build a future and support the education of underserved youth in Guatemala and Tanzania. Save the date on your calendar and join us at Mary Queen of Peace on April 21st 2012 for dessert and drinks during our silent and live auction.
