Garth Stein Charms Sammamish

The author made an in-person appearance to mark the culmination of the summer-long All Sammamish Reads program.

Seattle author Garth Stein showed the wit that has made The Art of Racing in the Rain such a commercial success in his appearance Tuesday night, Sept. 12, at Eastside Catholic School in Sammamish.

Riffing on everything from parenting, to missing the Seattle grunge days while living in New York, the author, who grew up in Shoreline, charmed the crowd, both young and old.

He talked about the challenges of getting an agent to pick up a manuscript narrated by a dog, and the value of following your heart.

Sammamish blogger Muddy Kinzer recently interviewed Stein for her blog, "Muddy Waters."

The Firends of the Sammamish Library provided funding for much of the inaugural One City, One Book program, and Stein spoke at the event at no charge.

There was something for everyone in the program and the culiminating event, so tell us, what was your favorite takeaway from All Sammamish Reads?

We too, love having our Farmers' Market return! Opening day was a bit weather-challenged. ThankRead More you merchants for enduring the wet and cold for our new extended hours! What a wonderful sight will return to the plaza when the sunshine calls back all the families with happy, giggling children. Market day is a date of dinner out (side) & shopping (vegetables, fruits and now HedgeHog Toffee) with my husband. Doesn't get much better than that! SEE YOUR THERE! Susan Gerend
