Sammamish Youth Musicians: Sound Off! Band Competition Applications due in November

The event at EMP in Seattle has been dubbed the Pacific Northwest's largest music event of its kind for people ages 21 and younger.

Youth musicians in Sammamish and the Sammamish area: If you're interested in possibly getting a chance to play in EMP's Sound Off! Battle of the Bands competition, applications are due Nov. 7.

Sound Off! is the Northwest's largest Battle of the Bands event for people 21 years and younger. The semifinal rounds will be held in February and the final event will take place in EMP's Sky Church on March 3. The top winner also will have a chance to perform at Bumbershoot 2012.

Full application details can be found on EMP's website. Judges will select 12 bands to perform live at EMP. Organizers say groups will be evaluated based on creativity, song composition, technical ability and originality.

In 2011, Fit for Hounds, a Plateau band with ties to  in Sammamish, competed in the event and .

The event gives youth bands exposure to talent bookers and music club venues. Organizers point to some of the past Sound Off! bands that have done well after the youth competition: Lonely Forest, Dyme Def, New Faces, The Lonely H, Sol, Schoolyard Heroes, and Brite Futures.
