Skyline High Presents Tony-Winning Broadway Musical, The Drowsy Chaperone

The 2006 Broadway production will be performed at Skyline HS's Lyceum Theatre May 1-4, and features musical accompaniment from a "Big Band"-style orchestra.

Skyline High School continues their 2012-2013 season with The Drowsy Chaperone, a delightful “musical within a comedy” running May 1-4 with excitement, energy, and laughter.

The Drowsy Chaperone will be performed in the Lyceum Theatre and will feature an outstanding orchestra, playing rousing “big band” tunes. The musical takes place in the small New York apartment of a lonely “man in chair.” For a reprieve from his “blue” mood, he decides to entertain the audience with one of his favorite records, The Drowsy Chaperone. Once the music starts playing the musical literally comes to life in his apartment, filling the space with laughter, spit-takes, love, and life.

Playwrights Bob Martin and Don McKellar and lyricists Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison premiered this production on Broadway in 2006 to instant acclaim, winning Tony Awards for Best Book and Best Score. Satirizing musical comedies of the 1920s, this production not only brings light laughter, but is an instant hit for any avid play-goers.

"When I first heard the track for this production, I was hooked," said Skyline drama teacher and production director Hannah Fry. "There was no other option for what we should do for the musical this year. It literally made me laugh out loud in my car, which gradually changed to singing at the top of my lungs. I couldn’t help it; it’s just that good."

All performances are at the Skyline High School Lyceum Theatre, at 1122 228th Avenue SE. Tickets are available at the door: General Admission is $10; Issaquah School District Staff and Students $7; and Skyline Staff and Students $3. Performances are offered May 1-3 at 7:30 p.m. and May 4 at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m.
