Filos Pizza Opens in Issaquah

Owner Leif Moi also has eyes on additional locations in nearby cities.

Filos Pizza has arrived on the Issaquah Creek.

Though the restaurant is new, it’s also a homecoming for owner Leif Moi, of Redmond. Moi says he helped launch the Jay Berry’s that was located there some 30 years ago, serving as its manager at the tender age of 19.

When Moi, who opened Filos on Redmond Ridge last year, saw the opportunity to buy the business from Field of Champions, he jumped, and has transformed the sports bar into an attractive Italian restaurant overlooking the creek.

“You can look out at the creek and see the salmon,” from the windowside tables, he says.

For Moi, it’s a significant expansion of the business. The Issaquah Creek location, situated at 385 NW Gilman Blvd, can seat about 180 patrons, about three times as many as Filos in Redmond, and has a generous bar and some outdoor seating for those final beautiful fall days.

The restaurant is ready to take on Issaquah Italian dining, with all fresh ingredients for its pizzas, such as the Mustang Pizza—which boasts five kinds of meat—and Fettuccine Carbonara.

“We make everything from scratch,” Moi says, before jokingly admitting that Filos doesn’t actually grow its own veggies.

Moi says he learned from the best, cutting his teeth on cooking at Olympia Pizza on Queen Anne beginning when he was 14 years old.

The restaurant is open for business from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays, with later hours on Fridays and Saturdays, and live bluegrass/jazz on Friday nights. It also opens early on Sundays, at 9 a.m., for NFL brunch.

Moi says he’s franchising the business, and currently has his eye out for possible locations in Woodinville, Duvall, and Monroe.
