If the first words out of your mouth every morning are, “I’ll have a large coffee”—or if you can’t even speak until after you’ve had your java fix—there's a national holiday created especially for you.
America will put staunch tea drinkers to shame on National Coffee Day on Saturday, Sept. 29, when coffee fiends can rejoice and celebrate their beloved bean.
Coffee was first brought to America in the mid-1600s in a shipment en route to New Amsterdam, now known as New York, according to the National Coffee Association. We have that shipment and the Boston Tea Party to thank for turning the nation into coffee drinkers.
Of course, every day is coffee day in the Northwest, thanks to a coffee shop or two practically on every corner. And if you don't want to spend $4 on coffee for one day, Krispy Kreme, with locations in Issaquah, Seattle and Tacoma, is giving away free coffee on Saturday at participating locations.
Since the big day is Saturday, some stores are offering coffee today, Friday. 7-11, for example, is offering free coffee until 10 p.m. McDonald's has free coffee today and Saturday.
So tell us, what's your favorite way to serve coffee? Post a photo of your favorite, if you've got one. And give a shout-out to your favorite barista or coffee place.
