Tech Alert: Redmond Digital Arts Festival on Friday, Saturday (Get Your 'Digital Double' for Free)

On Saturday, you can get your "digital double" for free from 9 am to 1 pm.

At Sammamish Patch, we know that days can go by fast and an event can pass before you even realized it was planned.

So, in that spirit, Sammamish Patch wants to let Seattle-area tech fans - and especially those in the Redmond-Sammamish-Issaquah corridor - know that the Redmond Digital Arts Festival will start on Friday, March 18 and continue through Saturday, March 19.

It's going to be held at DigiPen Institute of Technology, 9931 Willows Rd NE in Redmond. So that might get some technology fans interested already. The place has a reputation for producing top-notch video game industry workers.

Also, a Redmond company called Digital Double will be there Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm to let members of the public have their movements captured digitally - for free - according to the website advertising the festival.

As in: Look at the motion capture example of the red figure that Digital Double posted on its YouTube site and embedded on Sammamish Patch.

In a way, it looks like a super polished, advanced animation series. But, it's the double of an actual person. Another Digital Double video is embedded and shows a man and his, well, digitally-created image.

Here are details from the Redmond Digital Arts Festival website about what Digital Double will do on Saturday:

"Digital Double will be transporting its motion capture volume over to the festival just for the weekend of the event so that attendees can get a chance to jump in the space and get themselves motion captured for free! But please note, capture sessions will only take place on Saturday morning. So be there or be square!"

The company recommends wearing form-fitting clothing for best results. Pants and sweaters should be fine.

After that, the company will have their "Motion Meets Music" session - in which people can move and, well, apparently create music.

It looks like many talented artists will be at the festival, including filmmaker Joshua Homnick who has captured an urban sense to many of his commercial pieces.

On Saturday, there will be a free animation and 3D class for anyone who is over the age of 15. On the festival website, go to the "Hands-On Workshops!!" button for information.

If anything with Digital Double, participants can save their motion capture session as a souvenir from Redmond on Saturday, March 19, 2011.

Sammamish Patch is waiting for the Digital Double technology to be stuffed inside an iPhone or an Android phone.
