Valentine's Day: Last Minute Gifts Sammamish Style

You don't have to go far from home to find something special to say "I love you."

Here we are, the moment of truth for lovers everywhere. But we all know that sometimes life gets pretty hectic and more than a few of us will be shopping on our way home from work for something that says "I love you" with grace or a little fun.

To help you out, we've rounded up some of the local businesses that are always there for you and could have just the last-minute-thing for your sweetie. But this is just a start; check out Sammamish Patch Places, your local business directory, for more ideas.

Say it with jewelry

 is a full-service jeweler with a full line of watches, bracelets, pendants, rings, and necklaces, many on display at their showroom on the Plateau, at 2830 228th Ave SE You can even shop ahead and check pricing online. Last minute to shop? Plateau Jewelers is open until 6 p.m. Feb. 14.

Say it with fun gifts

 sells an array of specialty cards (like one with the greeting "I love you more than pickles"—personally, I think that says a lot!), as well as unique gifts and lots of lotions and potions and chocolates. It's located at 3024 Issaquah Pine Lake Rd SE, and as a special treat, is offering champagne, or beer for the guys, from 3-7 p.m. today, Feb. 14. They made some rocking cupcakes for you to enjoy while you shop, too. Last minute to shop? The store closes at 7 p.m.

Accents et cetera has baskets filled with salted caramels, cheese and wine, and other delicious treats. You can check the Valentine's selections out online but since the last minute has arrived, it might be best to pop in to the store, at 1225 244th Ave NE, to see what selections are available. Last minute to shop? The store closes at 7 p.m. today, and the owners are offering free local delivery today to anyone who mentions Sammamish Patch.

Say it sweetly

Do you have a whole family of Valentines? You can give them all a treat with an ice cream cake from , located at 3052 Issaquah Pine Lake Rd SE. The company has an array of specialty cakes for holidays. Last minute to shop? The store closes at 10 p.m.

Say it, then play it

This one may sound a little unusual, but why not get a little Guitar Hero built for two? If the love of your life is a gamer, a new game or gift certificate to , located at 22820 NE 8th St, Sammamish could be the ticket to his or her heart. Last minute to shop? GameStop is open until 9 p.m.

Say it with live music

For those of us who are short on cash but long on love, we're fortunate here in Sammamish to have a FREE concert event this evening, the , at 7:30 p.m. So even if you didn't make a dinner reservation in advance, you can still surprise your sweetie with an outing to , 22522 NE Inglewood Hill Rd, to enjoy "Unstrung Hero," chamber music sponsored by the Sammamish Art Commission. Last minute to shop? It's free and starts at 7:30 p.m.

We too, love having our Farmers' Market return! Opening day was a bit weather-challenged. ThankRead More you merchants for enduring the wet and cold for our new extended hours! What a wonderful sight will return to the plaza when the sunshine calls back all the families with happy, giggling children. Agreed Mark, Much as this solution seems crazy, some things are worth paying for (law and order, aRead More decent safety net, good schools and yes roads). I do blame the tax hawks though. Washington already has a relatively regressive tax structure. The "choke the government" solution seems carried way too far.

I thank the author for his well thought out arguments regarding these important transportationRead More issues in Washington state. While I believe some of the ideas presented are debatable, for example I believe that a vital and well used transit system ought to be part of our congestion relief plan in metropolitan areas, the lack of realistic funding options for this system cannot be ignored. However, our legislature (both parties included) seems to place a higher priority on "no new taxes" than creating a sustainable future for the state in many areas, including the transportation system. More than that, though, we live in a state whose citizens have varied interests and priorities. Most of all, we need our government to set priorities so that citizen interests and needs can be reasonably served. It seems we are pretending that we can base tax policies and tax rates exclusively on individual self-interest, as is often the consequence "no new taxes" scheme (e.g. if I don't get a direct benefit for myself, I won't support paying for it). This seems to me to be as much a part of this problem as current transportation system priorities.

They are considering options that would charge commuters to use a new lane on I-405 & charge for the existing carpool lane too (even if you have two people in the car!)
