Verizon Worker Strike to Affect Northeast and Mid-Atlantic States, not Seattle Area

Union-represented workers for Verizon went on strike on Sunday.

The strike involving tens of thousands of wireline workers for Verizon, the telecommunications company, will only affect Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states, corporate officials announced late Saturday evening.

The strike will not affect customers of Verizon Wireless, which provides cell phone service in the Seattle area and the rest of the country.

The company and employees represented by two unions were unable to reach an agreement over a contract. Verizon reported that managers, retirees and other people will fill in during the strike by the wireline employees.
