Help Swerve Robotics Club get to the World Championships!

Local youth robotics club has urgent need to raise funds to travel to World Championships

Swerve Robotics, a local FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) community-based youth robotics clubhas won one of only two coveted spots representing the state of Washington available to Washington FTC teams (www.firstwa.org/ftc). This win has qualified the team for the World Championships, which will take place in St. Louis, MO next month. Participating in a competition of this scale is an extraordinary opportunity for these young students and the club could really use your help to get there.

The club has an urgent need to raise money for their upcoming trip. While many FTC teams are affiliated with schools and have access to grants and other sources of funding, Swerve is a community-based, self-funded club that is not associated with a school. The club relies solely on the generosity of families, neighbors and sponsors as well as their own fundraising efforts to meet the club’s financial needs. Such needs include team registration, tournament fees, parts, related supplies, as well as travel scholarships.

Swerve Robotics Club serves students K-12 from public, private and home schools from the Woodinville, Bothell, Carnation, Snohomish areas and beyond. The club is unique in that it offers a robotics program to students who might not otherwise have access to such a program. Swerve takes a hands-on approach to STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education. Working alongside mentors, students apply real-world math and science concepts as they design and build robots and they also develop problem solving, organizational, leadership and team building skills in the process. Through the FIRST organization, students may also qualify for over $16 million in college scholarships. Swerve participates in the Washington State University’s 4-H Engineering and Technology Program, a youth development education program.
