Report Card: Rate Your Waste Management Service

Cleanscapes is taking over waste collection soon in Issaquah, so we're wondering how you rate the service you've had from Waste Management in Issaquah as well as Sammamish.

With Waste Management leaving the Issaquah scene in a couple of weeks, we thought this would be a good opportunity to give the company a community report card.

Waste Management serves both Sammamish and Issaquah, but lost a competitive bid to Cleanscapes for a new contract with the City of Issaquah that begins in July.

Lately, there have been many opportunities to observe how Waste Management as a company handles difficult situations. For example, over the winter there were . Consider how the company did both during and after the crisis. Did it share information you needed in a timely fashion--did it get back on track and pick up extra garbage to your satisfaction?

Now, the company is involved in contract negotiations with Teamsters Local 117 that . Waste Management told the union yesterday that it has extended its deadline to Sunday, June 17 for members of the union to vote on the company’s β€œlast, best and final contract offer.”

Would a strike that affected service also affect your opinion of the company?
Meanwhile, on Wednesday at 11 a.m., Cleanscapes and Issaquah officials will cut a ribbon at FISH to introduce a new environmentally-friendly Hydraulic Launch Assist (HLA)/Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) truck. It's one of several recently added to CleanScapes fleet, and they are the first of their kind in use in the Pacific Northwest. The integration of HLA technology into a truck fueled by CNG results in dramatically reduced emissions of green house gases and particulates, which can find their way into rivers, creeks, lakes and Puget Sound, FISH says. The company also will offer wildlife resistant containers and a local storefront for customer services as part of the new contract.
