Redmond Lights Ready to Dazzle Crowd this Saturday

The 13th-annual holiday-themed festival will feature expanded events this year as well as a kick-off to the city's centennial celebration.

The holiday season officially begins in downtown Redmond this Saturday as the city holds its 13th-annual Redmond Lights festival. The free event runs from 4 to 8 p.m. and includes a full lineup of family-oriented activities at Redmond City Hall and Redmond Town Center, as well as a luminary walk along theSammamish River Trail.

Parking will be available in the city hall parking garage and at Redmond Town Center, with a free shuttle running between both locations every 30 minutes from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Lisa Rhodes, events and marketing administrator for the City of Redmond, said several activities have been expanded this year, including the popular Candy Cane Hunt, which begins at 4 p.m. outside city hall and is held on a first-come, first-serve basis.

“It was overwhelmingly popular, so this year we’ve doubled that in size,” Rhodes said, adding that she still recommends participants show up early to secure a spot in the event.

Other expanded activities include the Chili Cook-Off and the Hot Air Balloon Glow, which will feature twice as many balloons this year and take place at both the Bear Creek Meadow and Luke McRedmond Park.

Completely new this year will be an ice sculpture demonstration by Cascade Crystal Ice Sculptures from 4:45 to 6:45 p.m. at Luke McRedmond Park. Rhodes said the traditional tree lighting outside city hall, set to begin at 4:50 p.m., will feature a special introduction to Redmond's centennial celebration, which will continue throughout 2012.

“I would tell you more, but it’s a surprise,” Rhodes said.

Redmond Patch will be stationed at a booth outside city hall from 4 to 6 p.m. during Redmond Lights. We'll be giving away some free Patch goodies and holding a raffle for a holiday basket with treats from local merchants—be sure to stop by and say hello.
