Weather Update: From Ice to Rain, Flood Watch Issued

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Friday afternoon through Saturday afternoon.

Now that the worst of the snow and freezing rain appears to be over, heavy melting as temperatures warm up today and tomorrow could cause new problems.

Though the lowlands are likely to be most affected, along with the Skokomish and Chehalis rivers, the National Weather Service says:

ALL AREAS COULD SEE EXCESSIVE SURFACE RUNOFF WITH PONDING OF WATER...PONDING AROUND CLOGGED DRAINS OR CULVERTS...AND/OR SMALL STREAMS GOING OVER THEIR BANKS.

The NWS says how fast the snow melts will be a major factor in flood danger this weekend, adding that with light winds and temperatures in the 40s today and tomorrow, conditions could be worse, but caution is advised.

A FLOOD WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR FLOODING BUT FLOODING IS NOT IMMINENT OR OCCURRING. MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS FROM THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE AND BE READY TO ACT QUICKLY IF FLOODING IS OBSERVED OR A WARNING IS ISSUED.
