Week in Review: A Look Back at News on the Sammamish Plateau

The Kellman site is selected as a possible site for a community center, the Issaquah School Board votes for a bond and the Lake Washington School Board taps levy money to bridge state budget cuts.

The week was chock-full of news on the Sammamish Plateau with the community aquatic center, school budgets and an Issaquah School District bond popping up for public discussion.

Here's a look back at the week to help you get caught up and ready for the coming one.

Monday: Sammamish Patch real estate columnist Joan Probala talked about what people should expect at a house auction or estate sale - given that foreclosed homes often go on the market. The Sammamish Teen Fest was held Friday (and featured Seattle rapper Macklemore) - and on Monday, Sammamish Patch posted a video of the Teen Fest skateboard competition.

Tuesday: The opted to tap levy money to bridge the budget gap because of state cutbacks and the Sammamish  picked the . From now through October, people on major rivers in King County will need to wear life vests.

Wednesday: Sammamish Patch parenting columnist Kathleen Miller offered ways for kids to have fun during the slow summer days - she calls the ideas boredom busters. This week also brought some good and big news to Jordan McCabe, a Beaver Lake Middle School student who happens to be quite good with a basketball. The world-famous Harlem Globetrotters drafted him - he needs to finish college first.

In state news that affects Sammamish and its residents, the state-run liquor store in the city will have expanded hours.

Thursday: The Seattle Times had news that tolling on the State Route 520 Bridge has been pushed back again - at least until August. The Sammamish police files had a recounting of crime, including a case in which a woman heard a thief or intruder in her house and scared him off.

The Lake Washington School District will lengthen the upcoming school year to avoid teacher pay cuts. The approved a bond measure, in general, but will fill in the details this summer.

Friday: The "Whiz Kid" for the week is Adam Hawkins, a recent graduate of . He's been active in  at that school and in search and rescue efforts. In other Sammamish police news, teens were caught driving under the influence.

Saturday: Edmonds Patch Editor Heidi Dietrich took a look at Kombucha, a fermented tea drink and Patch contributing writer Denise Steele Darnell looked at Ebright Creek Park as a Great Escape.
