Week in Review: From State Test Scores to High School Football, Sammamish Had News and Events

The Labor Day weekend caps many things in Sammamish. Among them: Summer is over and students will be back in the classroom, if they haven't started already.

The city with residents on the Plateau and along Lake Sammamish stayed busy with test scores, police reports and profiles of people who make the place special in the Seattle region.

Monday: Contributing writer Robert Baldino had an insightful, behind-the-scenes look at a training for Sammamish police and how they're preparing for crimes that no one really wants to consider. Sammamish-based , a robotics team, did well recently at a competition at Microsoft.

Joan Probala, Sammamish Patch real estate columnist and an agent, wrote about how there is tighter credit these days but also how there are new protections for buyers.

Tuesday: Sammamish resident Marjorie James helped launch Hire America's Heroes, a group which seeks to get jobs for veterans, given their military service to the country. The SAMMI board announced that the organization has a new executive director, Kristina Williams. The SAMMI Awards honor people who have contributed to Sammamish.

Education officials released the results of the state assessment tests for the 2010-2011 year. The results show that students in the and scored above their state peers. Individual schools in Sammamish fared well, too.

Wednesday: Sammamish police are investigating the death of a Sammamish man. His adult children have questions about his death. Officials are waiting for lab results for some type of clarity.

Kathleen Miller, Sammamish Patch parenting columnist, offered some great places to enjoy the last days of summer vacation. King County also certified the results of the August primary.

High school football season started on Friday and Mike Baldwin, Patch.com sports editor in the Seattle area, filed a preview of the squad.
