Week in Review (on the Plateau, Sammamish and Nearby): Globetrotters Play Basketball at School, SAMMI Prepares and Students Honored

The past seven days were filled with news and events involving Sammamish residents.

One great thing about this past week were the sunny days.

As rain and gray clouds descended upon Sammamish early this weekend, the sunny days were a nice reminder that spring is on its way.

At Sammamish Patch, there was plenty to keep us busy. Here's a quick link-friendly rundown of many of the stories that were published:

Monday: Real estate agent Joan Probala talked about tax assessments and how they're pegged to the previous year.

Sammamish Patch reminded real estate agents and owners that the site will feature homes that will have an open house on weekends (really). Click for details, though, on when to send the information.

Oh, yes. AOL, parent company of Patch.com, said it was buying Huffington Post for $315 million.

Tuesday: The Harlem Globetrotters stopped by the Plateau to play basketball with Jordan McCabe, the 12-year-old who has awesome (yes, used to truly mean impressive) skills. Sammamish Patch ran a feature on bicycling on the Cedar River Trail.

In Sammamish, the annual SAMMI awards are seen as something similar to the Oscars in terms of a gala night. This local event honors people for volunteering and community contributions. Sammamish Patch posted the names of the nominees.

The online world was introduced to Chino, a dog who needs a permanent, loving home. Help out, if you can.

Wednesday: Sammamish Patch continued to help busy moms (as well as any parent or guardian) navigate through what can be a hectic week with the and columns.

A third-grade class from Discovery Elementary School was the first group to be honored with the Sammamish Patch feature (congratulations, of course).

Writer Kathleen Miller offered up great art suggestions for your child or children in her weekly . Art helps kids grow and learn, she wrote.

On either Wednesday (or Thursday), Sammamish Patch posted the weekly police blotter in which there was a report involving hockey masks and a hookah pipe. 

Also on Wednesday, Sammamish Patch noted that the levy, which is leading, could give $20 million to for more classrooms and a renovated cafeteria. District voters, it appears, are backing higher property taxes to support education.

Thursday: On the fourth day of the week, the was posted as was the House Hunt real estate feature.

Writer Denise Steele Darnell reviewed Mongolian Grill and reported that her family of five people managed to eat well for under $50 (total).

She also wrote the , which featured Gold Class Cinemas (it looks fun) in Redmond.

Saturday: Kirkland Patch Editor Greg Johnston - who covered the outdoors for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer - took readers on a kayak trip on Lake Washington (yes, it's near Sammamish).

Joshua Suman, a Patch contributing sports writer, filed a dispatch about the Eastlake High School boys' basketball team losing to Woodinville High School on Friday.

Somewhere in the week, Edmonds Patch Editor Heidi Dietrich had a great piece about the Pacific Northwest Ballet, pilates and working out like a dancer.
