Week in Review (Sammamish Edition): Community Aquatic Center Options, Eastlake Seniors Graduate and Macklemore Headlines Teen Fest

There was news on the Sammamish Plateau - and here's a look back at key stories and events.

The past week saw a variety of news events in Sammamish, ranging from a look at homeless students in the city to one of Seattle's hottest rappers - Macklemore - headlining the annual Teen Fest.

Here's a look back to help you get get up to date and ready for the coming week.

Monday: Sammamish Patch teamed up with InvestigateWest to look at the number of homeless students in Sammamish. While the number is not as high as other cities, district officials talked about what they do to help these students as their housing situation changes. This can affect their learning, as Carol Smith of InvestigateWest reported.

Sammamish Patch real estate columnist Joan Probala looked at mortgages and how the length of a loan will determine whether to pursue points. Sammamish Patch also posted a quick video clip of the City Council honoring Stan Bump, a longtime resident who contributed to the community. He recently moved to Issaquah.

Sammamish Patch also had an update on what caused a Sunday fire at a house in the city.

Tuesday: Robert Baldino, a Sammamish Patch contributing writer, had a profile of a Sammamish man who runs one of the last sawmills of its kind in the Sammamish-Redmond area.

The public met at City Hall to learn more about the possible community aquatic center - but they had more questions than answers because the City Council, as of that night, had not selected a preferred location.

Smokey, the cat, also needs a permanent home. If you can help out, Smokey will be grateful.

Wednesday: Kathleen Miller, Sammamish Patch parenting columnist suggested some excellent parks to take the kids - especially with summer approaching (officially) on Tuesday, June 21.

At its Tuesday night meeting, the City Council leaned toward picking the Sammamish-owned Kellman property as the preferred site for a possible community aquatic center. That decision helped give architects direction.

Thursday: There was a real estate industry study that showed - based on listing price - that Sammamish is the third most expensive housing market in the state.

There also was word that the had raised over $400,000 to help continue science lessons - and keep pace with state standards.

On Wednesday, seniors from became graduates - and participated in a ceremony at Key Arena. Of course, it included the tossing of the cap and mortar board.

In Redmond, there was a fire on Thursday at a Puget Sound Energy substation. There were no serious injuries.
