Week in Review (Sammamish Style): From Schools Feeling the Impact of State Budget Cuts to the new Class 4A Boys Soccer Champions

The past seven days was full of community from top to bottom, as the saying goes. Here's a quick rundown to get you caught up.

If the past week has been a hectic one for you, here's are some of the news and events, as covered by Sammamish Patch, to get you caught up during this Memorial Day weekend.

We at Sammamish Patch hope the weekend is going well.

Monday: If you're a fan of The Not-Its! - a rock band that plays music for kids - have a look at their video, posted on Monday, of their May 21 performance at the . At the Issaquah Relay For Life, held at , on May 21 and 22, Sammamish Patch contributing writer Robert Baldino learned something about his mom - who died from breast cancer - and he wrote about it.

The and the two school districts that serve the city - the and - came to an agreement recently on surface water fees and educational outreach.

Tuesday: Alison Cathro, a Sammamish parent, was kind enough to write an articlefor Sammamish Patch about a serious - but important - topic: Youth depression. Details of the state budget compromise bill were released- and the Issaquah and Lake Washington school districts talked about the impact.

Wednesday: Sammamish Patch parenting columnist Kathleen Miller wrote about the Great Wolf Lodge as a family destination. The two Relay For Life events in Sammamish - one at Eastlake High School and the other at Skyline High School - raised more than $350,000 to help the American Cancer Society.

Thursday: Police incidents were in the news with a person who fell asleep while driving and a house burglary in which electronic goods and U2 tickets were stolen. Also: A Sammamish man tells police that his handgun was taken from Ford SUV.

The Issaquah School District released details of its response to the state budget cuts - it will dig into its levy money, as well as other sources, to keep class sizes the same and to let teachers makeup what would have been a 1.9 percent cut in pay. Teachers, who are on a list for job cuts, might be recalled.

Friday: This week's "Whiz Kids" on Sammamish Patch were the members of the Sammamish Youth Board.

Saturday: It was a day of high school sports. The key games started on Friday. Skyline High School on Friday beat Stadium in boys soccer and advanced to the state 4A finals against Eastlake High School. Eastlake beat Kentwood on Friday. After the state 4A championship game, the Wolves earned the title of the best team in that division for 2010-11.

Sunday: At the weekend state track and field championships for high school students, Kasen Williams of Skyline High School flew through the air - and ended up with three state titles.
