Songea's Kids, a Sammamish-based Nonprofit, to Hold Fundraiser on May 16 to Help Kids in Africa

Songea's Kids, a Sammamish-based nonprofit, will hold a fundraising event on Monday, May 16 to help children in Songea - a remote and poor part of Africa - and to talk about efforts to build an orphanage in that country.

The event costs $100 per person and will be held at Island Soul Caribbean Restaurant in Seattle.

People can learn about howSongea's Kids and its partners are working to help at least 62 children receive clothing, school tuition, supplies and healthcare.

Sally Farrell, board chair, Linda Hines, board president, and Rick Sundberg, an architect with Seattle-based Sundberg Architectural Initiative will talk about efforts to build an orphanage on 12 acres near Songea.

Organizers hope for the complex to have a health clinic and school. The Puget Sound Professional Chapter of Engineers Without Borders is helping in the effort to build the complex. Organizers also will discuss their October 2010 visit to the area.

Out of each $100 ticket, $60 is a tax-deductible contribution to Songea's Kids, the group said. For information, visit www.songeaskids.org.
