Breast Screening Can Benefit Young Women Too

Advanced stage breast cancer is on the rise for women ages 25-34. Thermography is safe for women of all ages, so we recommend starting in your twenties.

You may have noticed that women are getting breast cancer at a younger age than ever before.  Advanced stage breast cancer is on the rise for women ages 25-34, and heredity accounts for only 1 in 20 cases overall. Thermography (digital infrared thermal imaging) breast screening is safe for women of all ages, so we recommend starting as early as your twenties even if you don’t have a family history of the disease.

Thermography is ideal because there is no harm to the body and it can detect physiologic changes that accompany breast pathology much earlier than other screening methods.  “Studies have shown that an abnormal infrared image is the single most important indicator of high risk for developing breast cancer.” -- Susan M. Lark, M.D. Distinguished Author and Leading Expert in Women’s Health

A normal breast thermal image is like your fingerprint.  The only thing that will change your thermal fingerprint is a developing pathology.  Most tumors grow and require more blood supply, which is enough to show up on a thermogram well before a tumor is large enough to be seen on a mammogram.  In short, mammography looks at the structure of a woman's breast tissue, while thermography scans look at its changing behavior.  Here are some more facts about thermography.

1)   Peer Review Studies:  There are over 800 peer review studies in the Index Medicus Literature.  Over 300,000 women are included as study participants, and studies have followed patients for up to 12 years.  These studies reflect that Breast Thermography, when properly interpreted and regarded as a dynamic physiological measurement, has a 90 percent accuracy and sensitivity to detect changes in beast tissue necessary for prevention and assessment regarding cancer suspicion.

2)   Safe:  There is no radiation or compression so thermography is safe for women of all ages, and for women with implants.

3)   FDA Approved:  Thermography has been FDA approved as an adjunct to a mammogram since 1982.  Thermography has improved significantly over the past decade with digital technology.

4)   Interpreted by MDs:  You will receive a printed report, which includes the images and interpretation by an MD.  Breast screening also includes a risk rating.
