Local Author Nominated for BEST INDIE FIRST BOOK Award!

Self published local author is shocked to have novel The Dream Jumper's Promise nominated for Best Indie First Book by Romance readers.

You can stop trying to guess who is nominated. It's me!

If you follow my blog(s) Facebook, Twitter or read my books, you'll know that I self published a novel last year, then had a well-known romance press publish another and now I'm in the unique position to compare Indie publishing with Traditional publishing. With the former you get most of the money that Amazon doesn't take and the latter, you wait a long time to see a small amount of money and have no control over your book, cover, edits etc. But you have the press's media machine behind your work.

Last week I was informed that my novel, set on Maui, The Dream Jumper's Promise, was nominated by romance readers as The Best Indie First Book by Indie RomCon. This means the people who hugely support self published romance authors asked for nominations and mine was chosen and is now in a group of twenty-five books. I was shocked. Sales are going well but nothing like my other book that is traditionally published and nothing like my silly little novella, (published under a pen name) that is a straight romance.

I'm proud of Dream Jumper, nevertheless, and proud of the attention it is getting, even though I would consider it more suspense, than romance. Romance books always take the top prizes for everything, including reeling in way more sales than other genres. My Mommy friends say the romance in this book between Tina and Jamey is really lovely but the plot centers around a widow who can't move on from the presumed death of her husband until a body is found. (There is no real gore in my book or blood)

The print version came out last week as well, for those of you who appreciate the printed paperback. I know I do. Long live the printed book! I kept the price as low as Amazon would let me.

Here's what you can expect from the story:

Ten months after the presumed death of a missing surfer, Maui SCUBA shop owner, Tina Greene, still can't accept her husband Hank’s death. Without a body, her undying hope for his survival lives on.
Jamey Dunn, an old boyfriend, arrives on Maui from his tour of duty in Afghanistan where he’s a dream jumper for the military. Tina’s inconvenient feelings for him resurface and, even though he dives on her boat daily, she tries to avoid the man who betrayed her years before. Nightly dreams of diving with Hank haunt her and the edge between dreams and reality blur. Sensing danger, Jamey stays close to the woman he’s always loved but Tina turns to Hank's best friend, Noble for comfort. Thinking he can help, Jamey offers to visit her dreams. Tina is distrustful and hesitant to let him into her subconscious mind, but relents. As the threesome come closer to solving the mystery of Hank’s disappearance, danger sets in to reveal that one person is flirting with insanity, one is a traitor, and one is an imposter.
