The Hunger Games Becomes a Movie!

The Hunger Games movie opens this weekend. It's a captivating read and promises to be a hit.

Any Katniss Everdeen fans out there? Any fans who aren't Young Adult? Yup.

The Hunger Games trilogy has become a favorite with moms on the plateau recently with book groups searching for copies from facebook friends, talk at Pomegranate about Katniss, Peta and Gayle and excitement mounting about the upcoming movie. I, for one, can't wait. The novels are a quick, exciting read for anyone who can process the theme of the games--it is played to the death. And there is lots of death in the story because only one out of many can survive the game. It's a terrific story of the little guy (or girl, in this case) rising above cruel conditions to triumph over the evil government.

I read the first one aloud to my son years ago, when it first came out, having finished the Pendragon series and needing something along the same lines. We devoured the next two super-quick and remarked that it would make a fantastic movie. When they bought the rights and cast it, excitement started to mount. Recently I saw the trailer and it looks like it won't disappoint. High action and an interesting adaptation of Katniss' world promises to entertain. And now, I see online where a new fashion trend might be on the horizon - dressing like The Capitol residents. oh oh.

Enjoy the movie everyone (out Friday) www.fandango.com  and if you have a chance to read the books, I highly recommend them to anyone who can handle the violent theme. If you're not sure (as a parent), I'd say this is one book you can read ahead of time with absolute pleasure.
