New Cadet Leadership at Local Civil Air Patrol Squadron

Cadet Second Lt Kelly Walls of Redmond takes command.

Overlake Composite Squadron held its cadet change of command ceremony this week, with many parents and friends attending along with representatives from the state CAP wing headquarters.

Cadet Capt. Evan Prior of North Bend passed command of the squadron to Cadet Second Lt. Kelly Walls of Redmond.

During the 12 months that Prior has been the cadet commander, the unit has grown 35 percent and set the standard for excellence within the 27 units in the Washington wing.

Prior served as the cadet commander for the Arlington Air Show in July and was the cadet executive officer at the Civil Air Patrol basic encampment at Camp Murray, outside Tacoma, in August. He is the cadet commander for both the Western Cadet Academy and Washington wing CAP fall conference later this month.

The squadron is very proud of the achievements made by Prior and we look forward to his continued service with the squadron as a mentor to the cadet staff.

Walls is a senior at Redmond High School and an accomplished softball player. Walls has held several leadership positions at CAP state activities and is a graduate of the Desert Eagle flight encampment glider school at Ephrata.

Walls announced her selections for squadron cadet staff positions this week after careful consideration of the applicants. Kelly hopes to pursue a career as a pilot with the U.S. Air Force, where both of her parents served for many years.

Youth aged 12 and up are welcome to attend any Tuesday evening meeting of the squadron to explore the many opportunities for leadership and aerospace training available in the Civil Air Patrol.
