Community Day of Service - Big Success

Hundreds of volunteers from Pine Lake Covenant Church and Sammamish Hills Lutheran Church spent May 10 working at 35 nonprofits across the region. Event organizers report mobilizing approximately 500 volunteers. 

This marks the third year for this community-wide initiative originated by Sammamish Hills Lutheran Church. More than 300 volunteers signed on to serve in last year’s event. 

This year Pine Lake Covenant Church partnered with Sammamish Hills Lutheran Church for the event.

Some of the organizations served in Issaquah included the Salmon Hatchery, Eastside Baby Corner, Cougar Mountain ZooSeattle Tilth Urban Farms at Pickering BarnIssaquah Food and Clothing Bank and  Discovery Elementary School, Lifewire, and Adopt-a-Road in Sammamish.

“The third annual Community Day of Service was an exceptional day all around,” said Nancy MacPherson, event founder and member of Sammamish Hills Lutheran. “We were thrilled this year to partner with our friends at Pine Lake Covenant Church and hope more churches will join us next year. We plan to continue the event annually and our hope is that the entire plateau looks forward to this day every year as together we lift up those in need.”

Laurie Bunnel from Pine Lake Covenant Church said that volunteers of all ages contributed during the Community Day of Service. “We were really excited to be involved with Sammamish Hills Lutheran Church this year. We hope this becomes an annual event for our church as it has for Sammamish Hills Lutheran.” 

As communities of faith, this is an opportunity for us to share God’s love and grace,” says Pastor John LaMunyon, senior pastor at Sammamish Hills Lutheran Church. “And we hope to inspire people across all walks of life to experience the joy of offering the humble gift of service.”
