Tell Us: What’s the Weirdest Holiday Gift You’ve Received?

Gig Harbor Patch Editor Akiko Oda recently came across a gadget called The WineRack, a sports bra that holds 25 ounces of your favorite drink. What's the weirdest gift you've received?

On my recent trip to the Gig Harbor Hallmark for some holiday cards, my boyfriend and I discovered this outrageous gadget: The WineRack. It's a sports bra that lets you stash 25 ounces (equivalent to a bottle of wine) of your favorite beverage.

This was one of those “What the…” moments. I’ve seen people sneak flasks or sport beer helmets at tailgating parties, but I was completely fascinated (and disturbed at the same time) by this gag gift.

The WineRack comes with a black sports bra with polyurethane bladder and a tube with an on/off valve to control the flow. It also claims that it enhances your breast size by two full cups.

Hallmark sells it for $36.99 (as of Sunday, Dec. 9), but you can get it for less on Amazon at 29.99.

Under the product description on Amazon, it says:

“Take a bottle of wine, a mixed drink or even a fifth of your favorite hard stuff to the movies, concerts, ball games, even PTA meetings.”

And for guys, there’s a male equivalent called “The BeerBelly," which works the same way, but the “pouch” acts as the beer belly.

To help us come up with more weird holiday gift ideas, we asked our Patch readers on Facebook for any gifts that they’ve received in the past that completely missed the mark.

Out of all the local Patch towns, University Place residents had the best responses. Here are some of my favorites:

Kelly: My family does a white elephant gift exchange at Christmas and we get some crazy gifts from it. This year I picked my sister’s, which was this woodcarving of a hot air balloon over a church. On the balloon was a groom outfit on one side and a bride outfit on the other. It was so random we were busting up laughing all night!

Chris: A HUGE box of chocolates then a Susan Powter's book about why diets don't work.

Patty: A package of bacon.

Patricia: A hammer as a "gag gift" I was NOT happy.

Kendra: When I was in high school I received a random book from my uncle on how to build snow caves. Fast forward a couple decades and my 9-year-old daughter received a used pair of men's XL winter gloves from the same uncle.

What are some of the weirdest holiday gifts you've ever received from your family and friends? Tell us in the comments section.

We too, love having our Farmers' Market return! Opening day was a bit weather-challenged. ThankRead More you merchants for enduring the wet and cold for our new extended hours! What a wonderful sight will return to the plaza when the sunshine calls back all the families with happy, giggling children. Market day is a date of dinner out (side) & shopping (vegetables, fruits and now HedgeHog Toffee) with my husband. Doesn't get much better than that! SEE YOUR THERE! Susan Gerend

Agreed Mark, Much as this solution seems crazy, some things are worth paying for (law and order, aRead More decent safety net, good schools and yes roads). I do blame the tax hawks though. Washington already has a relatively regressive tax structure. The "choke the government" solution seems carried way too far.

I thank the author for his well thought out arguments regarding these important transportationRead More issues in Washington state. While I believe some of the ideas presented are debatable, for example I believe that a vital and well used transit system ought to be part of our congestion relief plan in metropolitan areas, the lack of realistic funding options for this system cannot be ignored. However, our legislature (both parties included) seems to place a higher priority on "no new taxes" than creating a sustainable future for the state in many areas, including the transportation system. More than that, though, we live in a state whose citizens have varied interests and priorities. Most of all, we need our government to set priorities so that citizen interests and needs can be reasonably served. It seems we are pretending that we can base tax policies and tax rates exclusively on individual self-interest, as is often the consequence "no new taxes" scheme (e.g. if I don't get a direct benefit for myself, I won't support paying for it). This seems to me to be as much a part of this problem as current transportation system priorities.

It gets worse folks. I was part of a selected focus group a few weeks ago of people who live alongRead More I-405 conducted by a well-known marketing research firm and paid for by WSDOT. They are considering options that would charge commuters to use a new lane on I-405 & charge for the existing carpool lane too (even if you have two people in the car!)
