'Aggressive' Panhandler Banned from Sammamish Highlands Shopping Center — Sammamish Police Blotter

Sammamish Police say an aggressive panhandler was banned from most of the businesses in the Sammamish Highlands Shopping Center on May 31 after he had twice been warned in the past week that he was not permitted to beg for money on private property near the Pine Lake Ale House.

The 31-year-old unemployed Bellevue man was contacted at the McDonalds shortly after 7 p.m. and bragged to officers that he had "made over $100 between Sammamish and Issaquah 'begging' for money in the last seven hours."

After he was tresspassed from the property, he told police, "Yup, I am going to get out of Sammamish and go to Issaquah. I can make money down there too."

Burglars Make off With $2,175 in Goods From Pine Lake Home
Burglars raided a 55-year-old schoolteacher's home on the 2200 block of 216 Ave. SE during the day and removed dozens of items — including a flat-screen TV, an Apple laptop computer, and jewelry — with total losses estimated at $2,175. The resident's neighbor told police that a suspicious, petite woman with an Eastern European accent, possibly Russian, had asked her if her home was for sale at around 4 p.m., though no signs were posted. Police discovered clues that suggested the burglary suspect was a petite woman who was in the vicitm's house had left in a rush.

Horse Suffers Suspicious Injuries on Ride Home
The 60-year-old owner of a horse trailer said she believed an unknown object struck her trailer  around 8:30-9 p.m. as she drove from Bridle Trails State Park in Kirkland to her home on the 1500 block of 248th Ave. SE, injuring her horse. The left-side window of the trailer was smashed, causing minor injuries to the horse, which had cuts to its face and around its eyes. Police found no evidence a crime had been committed.

Home Construction Site Manager Steals $4,500 Backhoe Bucket
A large backhoe bucket was reported stolen at 7 p.m. from a construction site at Montecino Estates, a new residential development on the 1700 block of 211 Way NE. A heavy equipment operator with construction company Infrastructure Synergy said there had been issues between him and a former site manager, who police suspected may have taken it. Police contacted the site manager, who said he believed the bucket — valued at $4,500 — was his equipment that a former employee had stolen from him. The bucket was eventually returned to Infrastructure Synergy with no charges filed.

Resident Suffers Fraud on Amazon.com
A resident reported his identity had been stolen after Amazon.com and Pay Pal contacted him that unauthorized charges were being made in his name. The victim was encouraged to hire a credit monitoring service and to check his own credit reports.

Fireworks Found in Garage
Police took possession of a large plastic bag filled with miscellanious, old fireworks that the 54-year-old homeowner had discovered while cleaning out her garage on the 23800 block of SE 28th Street at 12:55 p.m. Police later safely disposed of the fireworks.

New Sammamish Resident Busted for Driving with Suspended License
Police pulled over a burgundy-colored Dodge Caravan near the intersection of SE 36th Lane and Issaquah Pinke Lake Road at 1:09 a.m. for expired tabs, and discovered the 25-year-old driver had a suspended license for an unpaid traffic ticket. The man told police he had been unable to find a licensed driver to help him move his vehicle from Burien to his new apartment in Sammamish.

Youths Break-In to Repossessed Drug House
A bank-owned vacant home with a history of heavy narcotics activity  on the 21200 block of NE 6th Street was broken into at around 5:25 p.m. A neighbor heard banging and breaking sounds coming from the home and saw three juvenile males, approximately 15-years-old, near the home before they fled into the nearby woods. Police found the suspects had entered the home through a basement-level sliding glass door, which was both unlocked and shattered. Police said the home "has been ignored by Bank of America" and is now entirely unsecured, and recommended the city file a complaint against the bank.

Police Officer Euthanizes Injured Deer
A wounded deer was euthanized with a single bullet to the head at 7:26 p.m. after it was found lame in a 59-year-old resident's back yard on the 23300 block of SE 13th Court. The deer, which had several visible cuts and scratches to its body, was unable to stand and was missing a significant amount of fur from its hindquarters. Police suspect the deer was struck earlier by a vehicle or had freed itself after it became stuck under a fence.
